85 Years ago the UAZ factory was founded!

An anniversary year is the perfect opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of history.

💥We're launching a new column where we'll be sharing unique facts.

💥We'll start from the very first page. July 1941, the Moscow ZiS plant's production capacity arrives on the banks of the Volga. Thus, Ulyanovsk Branch No. 4 of ZiS (UlZiS) was founded.

💥Just six months after its launch, in May 1942, the plant, which was serving the needs of the front, was able to produce its first ZIS-5 trucks.

💥And by July of that year, production reached 30 vehicles per day!

🚛The harsh echoes of the 1940s are remembered at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. Mobile workshops based on the ZIS-5 truck—true "field hospitals" for equipment—roamed the frontline roads. Right in the open air, amid the sparks of welding and the hum of lathes, mechanics returned the vehicles to service.

And in the quiet of the Vinnovskaya Grove, workshops were located where the legendary Katyusha (BM-13 rocket launchers) were restored after damage at the front.

🚛The ZIS-21 wood-burning gas generator trucks and small-capacity motorcycle engines became symbols of popular ingenuity. They were assembled at the plant. While the front took every drop of gasoline, these trucks ran on firewood, sawdust, and even pine cones. Thus Victory was forged.
